Nintendo DS Lite Third Look

Sure, it's been a month, there wasn't that much left to talk about, I still cringe hearing my own voice, and my ever-more-bizarre sound effects and jokes are reaching an almost-freakish velocity. No matter! None of that could stop the sweet, sweet inevitable:

The third and final DS Lite video review is here!

Packed to the gills with information — and non-information — this tour-de-force video should cover just about any remaining DS Lite questions. I genuinely hope you enjoy it, and thank you for watching it.

Here's a convenient YouTube mirror for you Quicktime-busters and link-sharers.

While I can't promise more "vlogging" in my future (these things take forever!), you never know where this blog might take us. Also, thanks to Nicole for valuable on-location filming assistance!

If you have any more Nintendo DS LIte questions, I'll do my best to answer them in the comments!

Why do I not know what music that is? IT'S FRIGGIN' AWESOME!

I must have it. Please enlighten me.

( oh, and the ham sandwich killed me :D )

Again, thanks for the review Cabel. Interesting that the DS lite survived a trip to taco bell, impressive indeed. Fingers crossed I'll be getting one of these bad boys soon enough.

Best review ever!
Blogger Paul 4/24/2006 10:44 AM
First off - Thanks for all the hard work on these Cabel. I am sure that collectively these three videos took a lot of time to put together. Thanks!

Second - Having had the DS Lite for awhile now, do you have any further comments on the hand comfort of the console/controls? Do you still feel that "letting it breath" provides the best comfort for you while using the DS Lite? Have you played much Metroid Prime Hunters on your DS Lite? (if so, how was the hand comfort/cramping)?

Look forward to any responses you might be able to provide.

Regards,
Mark

Anonymous: The track is called "Splendido" — your subconscious knows it well as the background music for a little slice of television magic we call the Showcase Showdown. Yep: it's from The Price Is Right.
Blogger Cabel 4/24/2006 10:47 AM
Mark: Although I own Metroid Prime: Hunters, I sady haven't had much opportunity to play it yet. I'll try to put some time in this week and let you know how the comfort level goes.

I've pretty much totally acclimated to the DS Lite by now, and find it totally comfortable. I have a hard time reminding myself to "let it breathe" but even when I play cramped-style it's still not bad.

Picking up my old DS yesterday for the first time in months was a shocking experience — so, so much heavier than I expected... that goes a long way for the long-term comfort.
Blogger Cabel 4/24/2006 10:53 AM
thanks for the reviews, I've been waiting for the third one to come out. Would you rather of had a black one if you had the choice (if there was a black one), or are you happy with the white one.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/24/2006 11:04 AM
Strangely hilarious!
Blogger Joe 4/24/2006 11:06 AM
HAHA! Turkey sandwich. Great review, I'm definitely getting one of these eventually.
Anonymous Matt 4/24/2006 11:38 AM
Awesome... simply awesome. Great review. I was wondering about the sandwhich thing too. I like roast beef, but you made the point just fine! haha

Thanks!
Blogger Justin 4/24/2006 11:43 AM
Completely fabulous! I laughed a lot, great review.
Blogger Rafael 4/24/2006 11:51 AM
Mine arrived today. Loving it so far. Beating strangers from around the world at Mario Kart is very satisfying. They keep logging off mid-game.

Sadly, mine has a duff pixel bam in the middle of the lower screen but it doesn't spoil the game play and it's only noticable on splash screens and when the screens are black. Ah well, can't have it all good all of the time.
Blogger Matt 4/24/2006 11:54 AM
Great review, however its a shame that you may not do anymore "vloggin" because you are very good at it. My advice, keep at it.
Anonymous TGM 4/24/2006 11:58 AM
The best part was the DS Lite in the shopping cart full of Fruit Loops. I bet you other blog-watchers didn't catch THAT little bit of self-referential hilarity, did you?

Or maybe you did. But man, that was amazing. Oh, and the Star Wars music when the PSP entered was also so amazing that I had to watch it a second time, just to be sure I had seen that right. You, sir, have a gift. You must do more vlogging.
Anonymous mDuo13 4/24/2006 12:12 PM
Is there any notable difference in sound quality? I would think that the thinner form factor would lead to smaller speakers, which would, at least in theory, lead to lower quality sound, but I don't know since I don't have my Lite yet. : )

Also, the only other question I would ask is whether the slightly smaller control pad is noticeable when you're actually playing.
Blogger Doctor Fedora 4/24/2006 12:12 PM
Great review Cabel, thanks for doing them!
Blogger Patrick Gibson 4/24/2006 12:16 PM
When is the lite going to be available in the US?
Blogger Wiley 4/24/2006 12:16 PM
Zoinks, I recommend you get an agent for those hands of yours. The Country Crock people are sure to come knocking.

I realize you're done with your DSLite series, but I will persist and ask my question: how did you get the DS Lite to eat a taco?
Anonymous Anonymous 4/24/2006 12:17 PM
ooops.... may 9th, announcement.
got it.
Blogger Wiley 4/24/2006 12:33 PM
Cabel, i just thought i'd mention that the psp can still go brighter. sony wanted to get as much battery power out of it so you can only use the psp's brightest setting while its plugged in. any chance you could check that also?
Anonymous Anonymous 4/24/2006 12:36 PM
Wow, that was awesomely funny (and informative at the same time)! I agree that there's nothing more to say about the lite, but please please keep on doing these videos. I don't know, just review anything, like, compare turkey sandwiches to egg sandwiches, whatever. Really great job!
Anonymous Tob 4/24/2006 12:37 PM
Have to chime in with everyone -- I rarely laugh out reading a blog, but that was too much. I can't imagine the time this took, but it was definitely worth it. Bravo.
Anonymous Nate Beaty 4/24/2006 12:48 PM
Cabel I just want to say that was the perfect ending to an awesome trilogy of video reviews. The whole DS Lite in public sequence was great, and the music was on point. Your voice is very cool as well, you need to be doing this more often.

I'm not sure if YOU know, but you are getting a little following over at forums.somethingawful.com, we could use more cool peeps, think about joining us sometime!
Anonymous epsilon 4/24/2006 1:10 PM
hahaha! that was by far the best. who says the third parts of trilogies always suck? thanks so much for doing these, cabel! i ordered my DS Lite TODAY and it should be here in a few days time, thanks in no small way to your superb videos.

turkey sandwich. genius.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/24/2006 1:52 PM
I don't own any portable devices, nor do I intend on getting one anytime soon.

Your blog, however, was still highly informative and made me laugh quite a bit. Keep up the good work!
Anonymous Anonymous 4/24/2006 1:56 PM
Absolutely brilliant. Just watching these has changed my view from wanting to get a normal DS to sticking it out and just waiting for the US release of the DS Lite. Great reviews. I loved the turkey sandwich bit and the shopping cart full of Fruit Loops!
Anonymous insaneidiot 4/24/2006 2:01 PM
Cabel, you are my hero!

A great review again, your DS surely has quite sophisticated taste when it comes to entertainment and food :)
Blogger fontti-intoilija 4/24/2006 2:10 PM
AMAZING! You are possible the best 'vlogger' I've ever had the opportunity to experience. Please please please keep at it. Who knows, you could be famous. :D
Anonymous Anonymous 4/24/2006 2:15 PM
Great final installment in the DS Lite review. It was very informative and I hope Nintendo does the US fanbase right by releasing it soon and with more than just one color choice.

One question for you though, who won the lacrosse game?
Blogger Dan 4/24/2006 2:16 PM
One more question, Cabel. At the end of the Lite's tour around the... where you went, did the battery go dead? Or did you just shut off the screen (or did it go to a demo video on Mario Kart DS)? Because I noticed that the power indicator was still green... Does the battery indicator still turn red when you have low battery? That'd suck if it didn't.
Anonymous insaneidiot 4/24/2006 2:18 PM
That was the best yet. I had an ice blue DS Lite imported from HK based on your first review. So far, I think my experience with it has been been the same as yours. My brother has an old DS and I can't believe the weight difference.

The battery life has been amazing. I ran it for almost three days of pretty steady use off my first full charge.

You should definitely be doing more of these reviews. They're top notch.
Blogger Grenamier 4/24/2006 2:19 PM
Seriously that was very entertaining!

Really hope you keep at the vlogging - seems clear to me there's plenty of people eager for more!

Thanks again! Funny yet informative; a perfect combination.

WOW! I was really worried that I was going to be let down by the third installment after the great 1st and 2nd parts. However, you have outdone yourself! GREAT 3rd part!

And I agree with other, you need to be making money doing this kind of stuff (TV, movies, whatever), it's being wasted on programming ;)

Anonymous jason 4/24/2006 7:31 PM
The DS Lite reviews were awesome. Hopefully more vlogging will make it's way around these parts.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned or asked about the lacrosse game in the background. It looked like Edmonton just got scored on. Too bad about the Lumberjax in the playoffs though (and believe me, I can feel your pain).

I'm posting again, because this was definitely the best of the series. Please keep doing video blogs, they crack me up in a big way. The turkey sandwich cut was classic. CLASSIC!
Anonymous dc 4/25/2006 3:49 AM
I have one concern about the DS Lite. When Nintendo converted the GBA SP to a back lit model they used a highly inferior screen. It is 10Hz slower and slightly incorrect color. This causes substantial blurring in most games and the color red is sometimes over saturated and the color blue tends to be slightly purple.

Is there any signs of this in the DS Lite? It is imposable to tell by the movies do to frame rate and lighting issues.
Anonymous generalleoff 4/25/2006 5:10 AM
Your video was well-made and well-edited. A rare occurrence indeed.

It would be a pity if you didn't make more of those.

take care
Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 5:23 AM
I have to agree on the comment about the psp brightness.
When you turned on the PSP, it was at its lowest brightness, but when you turned off the DS' to demonstrate, you shuffled through three levels to get to the brightest when you turned it back on.
That really didn't seem like a fair comparison of the screen brightness since they really weren't equal to begin with.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 5:57 AM
Informative and Hilarious. You rock worlds.
Anonymous Matt 4/25/2006 6:59 AM
I must say I really love your reviews! Nintendo should hire you for DS Marketing! You could sell this to a rock if you wanted to (and that says a lot). I will definitely be getting myself a DS Lite.

As for a turkey sandwich...well I can't really attach headphones to it or use it in hot spots so that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I just wanted to say awesome video review. Few people strike that balance between funny and goofy, yet not at all cheesy. It also made me chuckle several times, which is a much greater accomplishment than it sounds like.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 9:02 AM
Anonymouses: The PSP in my demonstration was definitely set to the highest brightness mode possible while not being plugged in. Yes, the PSP can go a bit brighter when plugged in — something I had totally forgotten! — but I don't think that makes for a very good comparison of a portable game system. ;)

Others: Thanks for the incredibly nice comments. I'm glad you guys enjoyed my goofy video!

Anyway, I absolutely love your videos. You really should consider doing more about anything and everything. You need to do a Revolution one when it comes out.

Now you made me wish I could buy one for myself too... I'm living in Europe: according to your video I can play EUR-games with a JP-Lite without any problems. What about power? Is it just a matter of plug adapters? Is there something else to be aware of before buying a product aimed at the JP market in order to use it in Europe?

Cheers!

You see, the light was green, not read - this means the battery was not drained.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 5:47 PM
Very good. I had no questions about the DS lite myself, well, maybe the comparison with the Micro and PSP. Can't wait for the Lite to hit Europe.
Anonymous Jay 4/25/2006 5:49 PM
Friggin' hilarious. Do more stuff like this.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 5:50 PM
Anon; he made the DS appear to shut down simply by keeping the camera still, or just having someone pop in and turn it off and remove the frames. You can tell by camera moving too much in the first 'off' frame.

Or does the DS lite go green before it cuts off? as a sort of "I'm not dead ye..." thing
Anonymous jay 4/25/2006 5:52 PM
Anonymous: The magic of editing! :)

Ironically, I tried to get the battery to drain all day, but it never did, and I think they'd have kicked me out of that bar if I sat and waited for it. I also tried very hard to at least make the light be amber so that joke segment had some accuracy. :) I ran the DS earlier for 4 or 5 hours until it was amber — but when I got to the bar and flipped it open, it was green again! Seriously.

Please note that despite how I make it sound the battery isn't powered by magic, and does die eventually, but it takes some work. :)
Blogger Cabel 4/25/2006 5:57 PM
the PSP screen to DS screen brightness comparison you did was totally far-fetched. Seeing as teh ds's background was white, and the psp's whas red. Red is one of the lower level colors the human eye can't detect nearly as much as far as brightness and light intensity goes.

To have a read test. Set a solid white background on the psp, and if it was close with the red vs/ white, then the white vs white will have the psp blow the DS out of the water.

Your a fanboy, I can tell, and so I think you were attempting to lean the stakes toward your ds. I have both a ds and psp, and comparing mine theres no competition, psp takes the cake. DS lite may be different, but a FAIR test is all that we can use to tell.
Blogger cory 4/25/2006 6:03 PM

Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 6:21 PM
cory, calm down. It's not the end of the world! You can still enjoy your PSP without everyone else agreeing with you that it's brighter! Seriously, how do you know the PSP would "blow the DS out of the water" (I assume you're referring to the DS Lite)?

Also, "I have both a ds and psp, and comparing mine theres no competition, psp takes the cake. DS lite may be different, but a FAIR test is all that we can use to tell." Hmmm...You think? When did anyone ever say the DS was brighter than the PSP? And if you're so passionate about this "fair test", then why don't you do one?

Anyway, great reviews, cabel! I LOVED them! ;)
Anonymous Anonymous 4/25/2006 6:31 PM
2191 1088 0933..If your up to it of course. My DS still has some magic. :D
Blogger Link332 4/25/2006 6:33 PM
To cory:

First of all, are you serious? The white background is the only one that EXISTS for the DS. There was no other way to do it. It was in no way "far-fetched" to use the default menu settings for a non-scientific test. And he warned you that it was only his opinion, and not to take offense, but leave it to guys like you to not take the warning anyway.

I like how you know for certain that the white vs white will have the psp "blow the DS [Lite] out of the water", despite you not having a Lite. Sorry, but having an original DS grants you no impartiality.

Glad you can tell he's a fanboy by liking a handheld he bought. I don't understand your bit about the PSP blowing the original DS out of the water; of course it does, and everyone acknowledges that. However, it is worth noting that even if the brightness levels were equal between the two, the DS Lite battery lasts much longer then the PSP's at both their highest levels.

The test was as fair as you're gonna get out of him. He's already appeased one dingus this year. You seem to have had your mind made up on the PSP's superiority to the Lite before you even saw the video.
Blogger Nick 4/25/2006 6:33 PM
Cabel,

This is a remarkable series. I just had to add yet another voice of support: you have a great screen presence and incredible handle on the pulse of tech. We need a weekly video blog entry about all and sundry tech topics. Can we hook you up with Engadget (Rojas, are you feeling this?) to do something with them? Or perhaps Joystiq? Many blessings and all the best.

To Nick:
"The white background is the only one that EXISTS for the DS".

There are about 12 colors for the psp, so why not set it to white, or just get any old white image and set it as the background.

"It was in no way "far-fetched" to use the default menu settings for a non-scientific test".

Your an idiot. The blue is the default settings for the psp (not fucking red your moron), and I'm sure the calender isn't the default setting for teh ds. Blue would show alot more brightness.

"leave it to guys like you to not take the warning anyway".
Maybe if he ran some fair tests he would find out that no one would be offended.

"I like how you know for certain that the white vs white will have the psp "blow the DS [Lite] out of the water", despite you not having a Lite. Sorry, but having an original DS grants you no impartiality."

You obviously can't read very well. I said if they are very close when the psp's background is set as red, and the ds's is set as white, then setting the psp'd to white would for sure blow it out of the water, because it would make a huge difference on an already close matchup.

"Glad you can tell he's a fanboy by liking a handheld he bought".

I can tell he's a fanboy because hiis test was in favor of the DS.

" the DS Lite battery lasts much longer then the PSP's at both their highest levels."

I'm not arguing about that, and I havent seen a test, but the battery tests that he did however was the DS sitting on screens, not being used, or allocating ram, or tansferring data... just sitting there... The actual batter, when used on nonstop play, would not last near as long, and you know that. Sur the psp has a shorter battery life, but whatever, I'll go buy another battery for $9 at wal*mart.

"The test was as fair as you're gonna get out of him".

if this was honestly his best attempt at a fair matchup, then he is a failiure as a produc reviewer / comparer. If he wanted a real test, he would have done a spectrum image, or an lcd test images.

"You seem to have had your mind made up on the PSP's superiority to the Lite before you even saw the video."

Not true at all. I simply realized that this entire review means nothing if he is going to compare items when they are no where near equal.

BTW, nick... lets see your ds lite? Your defending it sooooo much, i'm sure you would have to have one... Oh.. you dont? Can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e?

cory: Somewhere on the internets, i remember seeing a direct comparison between the psp and the ds lite using the play-yan to show the same picture. the ds lite blew the psp out of the water in terms of contrast and brightness. However, since I dont actually have a link, I am relying on you to either take my word for it or actually do some internet research yourself.

I did have a chance to look at the psp (my cousins) and my ds lite. It's a toss up on the screen, its realy up to preference. But i will say that the ds has the better games library.

Oh and Cabel, you are a king among handhelds.

Please make more.

How well does the white lite stay white? Plastic white things always seem to lose their pretty white-ness rather quickly and I want to get a white lite but I worry about her changing color on me.

Cabel, get google ads, get sponsored...get something! You're way too talented to not do this more frequently (and get some form of compensation for it). It's also very obvious that other people are realy enjoying it as well, plus it's all actually very informative. In a very short amount of time you've developed a little following and I'm assuming traffic is through the roof. I watched all three DS lite reviews at least three times....three! I've never watched any review ever more then once. I've even showed my girlfriend and some friends, they all loved it. Thanks for the great videos and good luck with anything else you do in the future. I'll be keeping an eye on you.

Uhm, well... review something else. Anything else. Metroid Prime Hunters! Not out until May 5 over here. Anything. Cereals.
I'm really not fond of video reviews - sometimes because the reviewers are just plain annoying, or their humor is quite... humorless, or because... well, I can't even understand what they're mumbling (English's not my native language. Not my second either, in fact. So... yeah, I may be hard to understand  ). I enjoyed the three reviews, fun, informative, and... understandable. That's important. Did I also say that I had a lot of fun watching them?
And thanks for the crisp image and sound - it makes them almost perfect.

Cabel: Does your DS Lite GBA cover have connectors in it?

Here's what I mean:

I am puzzled as to what they are for, as far as I can tell it makes no difference to operation of the DS when its not in.

one question however: when you exit Pictochat or the options section of the main menu, does the ds lite always have to shut down entirely? is there no way you can simply return to the main menu screen?

Hey, I have a really serious question. You said you can transfer wifi seetings from your DS to your DS Lite. Does that mean wifi stats and data as well? Because i would hate to lose my MKDS and MPH data. Tetris I don't mind so much, because my rating is horrible.
Blogger _GanonMetroid_ 4/26/2006 5:49 PM
Yup, DS Lite is "brighta" (in the words of Cabel, in episode one) than the PSP. In my opinion, the PSP failed. It doesnt have many good games, and the load times are awful. Sure they have WAY better graphics than DS, but still. DS Lite wins!!!
Anonymous Anonymous 4/26/2006 7:11 PM
So does the LED light turn red when the battery is low? Since when the DS was I guess "having dinner" it turns off without the light turning red. So does it or does it not turne red?

First of all, kudos to Cabel for going out of his way to take a picture putting this poor bastard in his place.

"There are about 12 colors for the psp, so why not set it to white, or just get any old white image and set it as the background."

There's 12 because they cycle monthly. Like I said, it was an off-hand comparison and he obviously wasn’t aiming for complete accuracy. That’s what the latest picture was for. :D

"Your an idiot."
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Okay, next point.

"Your an idiot."
Sorry, it's still funny as hell.

“The blue is the default settings for the psp (not fucking red your moron), and I'm sure the calender isn't the default setting for teh ds. Blue would show alot more brightness.”
Hahahahaha. ‘Your’.

But listen, the default setting for the PSP background is a wallpaper that changes its color every month. Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t know that.

You’re sure? You claim to have a DS, so you should know otherwise. The only dashboard screen on the DS is the one he showed, with the calendar. Frankly, it’s impossible to not know that if you own a DS.

“Maybe if he ran some fair tests he would find out that no one would be offended.”
Maybe you should be getting offended by a casual video comparison some guy makes on his blog. Crazy idea, right?

“You obviously can't read very well. I said if they are very close when the psp's background is set as red, and the ds's is set as white, then setting the psp'd to white would for sure blow it out of the water, because it would make a huge difference on an already close matchup.”
You’ve more than adequately proven that you can neither read nor write properly, so I’d be careful about pointing fingers.

And in the latest picture, he set it, and the DS Lite actually blew the PSP out of the water. Happy yet? No? Good.

“I can tell he's a fanboy because hiis test was in favor of the DS.”

Since when does the outcome of a test determine anything about the tester in question? That completely defeats the idea of a test. He’s checking to see which is better, with no predisposition either way.

“I'm not arguing about that, and I havent seen a test, but the battery tests that he did however was the DS sitting on screens, not being used, or allocating ram, or tansferring data... just sitting there... The actual batter, when used on nonstop play, would not last near as long, and you know that. Sur the psp has a shorter battery life, but whatever, I'll go buy another battery for $9 at wal*mart.”

The battery would last almost as long during gameplay as on the dashboard. Considering that it’s not trying to spin a freaking UMD, the workload isn’t that tough. Either way, if you read his post, you would’ve noticed that he had to work to wear it out.

“if this was honestly his best attempt at a fair matchup, then he is a failiure as a produc reviewer / comparer. If he wanted a real test, he would have done a spectrum image, or an lcd test images.”
And you’re a ‘failiure’ at ‘englis’.

Anyways, he didn’t. He did a casual test, and it’s not your place to bitch and moan that he didn’t do it the way you wanted.

"Not true at all. I simply realized that this entire review means nothing if he is going to compare items when they are no where near equal.”
Haha, after seeing the picture he just posted, I agree. They certainly aren’t equal.

“BTW, nick... lets see your ds lite? Your defending it sooooo much, i'm sure you would have to have one... Oh.. you dont? Can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e”

Uhh, yes I can. Can you define hypocrite? Because I don’t see anything hypocritical about what happened. A better example would be that it’d be hypocritical to praise the DS Lite then go and buy one when you realize that it actually has games coming out for it. I expect that soon.

Anonymous Anonymous 4/30/2006 9:00 AM
Comparing a white background vs a pink background isnt fair... a color has a value, and the value of the pink is some sort of not so light grey, which makes the brightness comparison unfair.

If he had a psp and he wanted to make a fair brightness comparison, he should have used a white image.
Anonymous Anonymous 4/30/2006 12:48 PM

Blogger makorba 5/11/2006 7:26 PM
first of all, i really enjoyed myself with the ds lite trilogy series, ie "first look", "second look", and "third look". they are really very nicely done and entertaining.

i don't think the purpose of this video is to "humiliate" or "drown" the psp into the abyss... the creator of this video has indeed compared the ds lite with ds, which are of the same company in his "second look", the it was clearly shown that even ds' brightness is not up to that of the ds lite. all these were just to compare the brightness, that's all. so it's no point getting so agitated or depressed over it.

however, comparing the brightness is not the sole purpose, there was still the battery observation test. Personally, i play my ds lite every day for about 5 hours, using the lowest brightness and it lasted me for 4 days of 5 hours gameplay daily.

and about the dead pixel.. after i bought my ds lite, i realised there is a dead pixel. it's obvious when the screen is black or dark. the lid was not properly aligned to the bottom half of the unit and i was quite sad about it. however, i was lucky to be able to have it replaced by the retail shop mainly of the pixel problem. and guess what, the last four digit of the serial number of the replacement happened to be the same as my vehicle number plate! i was really overjoyed and become a happier person. i supposed it's all boiled down to manufacturer problem and luck.

about the power adapter charger, mine was directly imported from japan, and so it comes with a 110v type, and i have purchased 2 different chargers later that accomodate the 240v requirement in my country.

i found a white wrist strap similar to that to psp and replaced it with the strap that comes with it, mainly because i do not want to dirty the original strap that comes with a nintendo printed on it..

i never own a ds, and when i have the chance after having my own ds lite, i could really feel the great difference in terms of weight and sizes.

well, everything works fine now, and yes, i do really enjoy the company of my ds lite wherever i go ^^

keep up the good work, cabel ^^

Anonymous Anonymous 5/13/2006 6:39 AM
the ds and ds lite do not share the same charger or battery, the reason why the need to purchase another extra charger or battery if required.
Anonymous 2B Pencil 5/13/2006 10:29 AM
Wow. What can I say? I was wondering about the lite, and these 3 vids have finalised my decision to get one - import or otherwise - things are always expensive in the UK. Anyway, looks like a lot of efforts gone into these - keep it up!
Anonymous Anonymous 5/15/2006 3:04 PM
Hey Cabel, is your DS Lite unit a Japanese import? (I guess it would have to be, right?) And if so, I assume it came with English language support?

Last week, I bought a regular DS. Three days later, I heard about the DS Lite. So... I threw a little tantrum, returned my DS, and decided to wait for DS Lite to hit U.S. shores.

But now I'm hearing speculation about the U.S. release date being pushed back until Christmas (God forbid). If that happens, I'll probably get impatient and buy an import, but I want to make sure the import has English language support (or the ability to obtain it somehow). Musings?

Btw, great video reviews. They're by far the best documentation I've seen of the DS Lite.
Anonymous Will (2) 5/15/2006 5:08 PM
Hey, I really enjoyed your videos, especially the second one, hilarious. I sold my DS a few weeks ago and I'm waiting for them to come stateside (I don't have the extra $70 to import). my question to you is have you gotten your hands on the "dark blue" version? From what I've been lead to belive it's pretty much black. And if it is I'd wait another few weeks or import one, but I don't want to be stuck with a dark blue thing I'll be unhappy with.
So what do you know? is it dark blue or black? If you know, thanx.
Anonymous Anonymous 5/15/2006 8:22 PM
yes, the japanese import ds lite has several language support, including English.

and the actual dark blue ds lite is not any near to black, you are still able to recognise the color as dark blue..

Yes you can, but remember they come out June 11 for $130. Just wait and you pay less for the DS and not have to pay shipping.

I relize you have allready declared the Ninteno ds Lite the WINNER, and I saw a video on YouTube that looked like the ds lite has some possible internet browsing capabilities. Can you please explain/verify these on your blog page? Ill be watching:)

***awesome videos**

Cory, you are the most uptight and downright rude person. Cabel has obviouly worked hard on these reviews and i hope you know that. I personally can see that you know just about nothing about either of the systems so stop verbally attacking everyone. If you are happy with your PSP then thats great...we dont all need to know. Enough said.

as far as im aware.. the black ds is just for europe... maybe rong
check out the import sites tho.. they may import them from europe (at a price)
the price for the ds lite in england will be 100pounds, which works out about 186.34usd thats 56usd more than what it costs to buy in america
so 56 + import charges + shipping and handling = im guessin over 100 dollers to get the black ds imported from england... also you will need a plug in adapter as the uk are 3 pins (220v), and us is 2pin sockets (110v)
hope this helps!

I have 2 Questions

If you know, how does the web browser work for the ds? And when does it come out?

Does the ds have the same connection as a regular ds when you play against friends?

is the nintendo ds lite very popular?
